Secret Signs and Symbols

A little known fact is that twenty-one Surfing World Champions since 1985 have had a secret Christian symbol, the fish (ΙΧΘΥΣ), on the deck of their boards. What other sport can make such a claim?  This symbol is an acronym for:

Jesus Christ, God’s Son, Saviour.

This is due to the success of shaper Al Merrick, a committed Christian, who started putting the fish on his boards in the early 70’s.

I know my true identity and it isn’t as a surf industry success. Any success I have is from the Lord Himself – and the surf magazines aren’t going to print that.” – Al Merrick
